CMSA History

The Case Management Society of America is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1990 dedicated to the support and development of the profession of case management through educational forums, networking opportunities and legislative involvement. CMSA's success and strength is its structure as a member-driven society.

CMSA's emergence as a prominent national organization is in large part due to its unique and involved membership. Innovation is used to continually mentor new leaders for national positions. CMSA has developed a leadership ladder, whereby local leaders progress in their scope of responsibility through appointed national committee positions or elected director/officer positions. To enhance this process, the society provides ongoing leadership training seminars geared for the local leaders.

The St. Louis Chapter, The Case Management Society of St. Louis (CMSS) became incorporated as a chapter in 1993 & was the year of their first annual educational conference.  Lead by Diane Leek in 1997, CMSS became incorporated with CMSA.  CMSS membership application & renewal process was simplified to align to that of CMSA to keep in compliance with CMSA Bylaws.  In 1997, CMSS developed their mission statement:  to provide a means in which the case manager can collaborate & learn from all professionals within the case management profession by providing education, information & networking opportunities towards professional development.
